Charlie LeDuff is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. And once I opened this book, it didn’t take me more than a couple paragraphs to understand why. The dude can just flat out write. Power. Emotion. Clarity. He’s in full command of his craft. And I gotta say, no matter what the art form, it’s always such a true joy and privilege to be in the company of a master. I just started the book, but I already know I’m gonna totally dig it ‘cause in addition to LeDuff’s badass writing… I was born and raised in the Detroit area, so the subject matter is something near and dear to my heart. And while it’s not gonna be a pretty portrait or a warm and fuzzy trip down Memory Lane, it’ll be a beautifully written account about a city I love and a city I -once again- call home (after 22 years away). I’ll come at ya with a more detailed review of the whole book once I’m finished. But for now, I just felt compelled to throw this guy the props he deserves. Nice job Mr. LeDuff. You, sir, are a wordsmith. Bravo. And thank you.
